The most terrifying thing a writer will see…
Posted: January 26, 2013 Filed under: On writing | Tags: blank page, fears, writing 8 CommentsBig call, I know. But I reckon most writers will agree with me. This is the most terrifying thing you will ever confront:

Warning: this picture may shock you!
Stupid blinking cursor. Stupid blank page.
Come on, words. Let’s rumble.
Oh babe…I’m so with you on that one! That, along with spiders, is my biggest fear!
Especially when everyone tells you the beginning is so important! (Along with the middle, and the end.) Gee, no pressure. :p
Agreed!
Too true! Even when I’m on a roll, that blinking cursor at the chapter break will make me freeze for a moment!
It’s like the Eye of Sauron. Only less flamey.
That’s why I don’t ever write my first drafts on the computer. A pencil on paper seems much more forgiving & less ominous, somehow.
I do some drafting with pen and paper (usually when I’m at work and trying to write something sneakily) but I always add it in electronically afterwards. Today I just felt the need to write – it’s been almost a month since I finished my last book – so I figured hell with it.
I do all of my revising on the computer, but when I write new words, they have to be on a spiral-bound notebook with one of my specially-designated story pencils 🙂
